Oral presentations represent one of the most important elements of business communication that is carried out to describe your work or anything else in a clear, concise, interactive manner. It doesn’t just apply to the business world, but also dates back from your childhood days starting from show-and-tell sessions in kindergarten to class presentations done during your school and college years. And in a competitive and cutthroat business environment, oral presentations play a crucial role in helping you stand out, strike the best deals, and even develop strong business relationships.

While it may appear easy on paper, giving the best oral presentation takes quite a bit of preparation and has several factors you’ll need to keep in mind because you will be dealing with several people at once and you never know what could go wrong while you present your work. Hence, there are a few simple steps you can follow to ensure your presentation will not only go smoothly, but also impress your audience:

  • Know your audience.
  • Follow the 3 P’s: Plan, Practice, and Present.
  • Cover only important information by highlighting key details and articulating them in a simple manner without using jargons.
  • Use practical and real-life examples, adding a bit of humor if needed, to explain certain points easily. It will also help retain the attention of your audience and their interest towards your presentation.
  • Always keep your eyes toward the audience. Never look elsewhere while presenting.
  • Each time after making a point, take a pause to ensure your audience are still with you and to answer any questions they might have.
  • Confidence is key for better communication and will show how much you know about your work.

Keeping these points in mind will help you immensely in not only enhancing the quality of your work, but also in standing out and outperforming others. And you will also be able to snag the best business deals as the result of a good pitch.

As long as you are in the corporate world, oral presentations will always be a major player that can take your career to new heights and develop your soft skills.
